The latest report by Juniper Research says that the number of ticket sales of digital events and transport delivered to mobile devices is likely to be almost treble. By 2018, it will be 16 billion according to their research report.
Mobile Ticketing Strategies that include Air, Rail, Metro, Sports and Entertainment and bus reservation will give rise to the growth of mTicketing sales over the next five years.

This report adds that SMS-based tickets have been inflecting this result. In Sweden, it has been found that 65% of bus tickets are sold through mobile media.

Furthermore, they say that popularity of mobile ticketing apps is another reason why this system in on the rise.
